In the past few years the desire for hair extensions among girls has increased. The most important reason for this is simple - their favorite celebs were doing it. This is a traditional case of monkey-see-monkey-do. This is also another show of the influence that stars have in the market. People wish to act like them, dress like them, and do everything that they do. This time it has gone to far!

Celebrity Bad Hair Extensions

Hair transplant experts from all over the world have been reporting an increase of ladies balding do to hair extensions. When questioned what made them choose to get extensions 90% of them related because they wanted hair like their favorite stars.

According to of the hair transplant experts interviewed the people particularly at risk for damage from hair extensions are those who already have thinning hair, or with some kind of existing medical condition like anemia.

Hair Extensions Bad For Hair

It has also been discovered that hair extensions in most cases cause damage to the hair and the scalp. Don't trust me ask 22 year old Maya Ramos of Delray Beach, Florida, who experienced first hand the painful results of hair extensions.

Three months after her extensions Ramos started to see evidence of thinning hair. During a recent interview Ramos told GMA that her hair began to shed a lot in the areas where the hair extensions where located. Her hair started to fall out so badly that she began to panic, she did not know what else to do but seek the assistance of a hair loss transplant expert.

She was finally diagnosed as having traction alopecia, a form of gradual alopecia caused essentially by a pulling force being applied to the hair. Ramos's hair fortunately grew back after seeking the help of a consultant. However another young woman called Chioma Odimegwu of New York City was not as lucky. Odimegwu's only course may be a hair transplant at the age of 25 - after 6 years of using hair extensions on and off she suffered from permanent hair loss.

Odimegwu had tried everything from numerous topical lotions to female Rogaine in an effort to re-grow her hair. In a news interview about the damages of hair extensions Odimegwu claimed that out of shame she wears a large amount of hats and she covers her hair by also wearing a lot of thick hairbands.

These two young women are not alone. Many stars have stepped forward and shared their stories of experiencing baldness do to extensions. This is an expanding issue, and a heavy price to pay for looking pretty.
