There are a huge range of common household pests in New Zealand and a huge range of problems that these pests can cause. However, a lot of people today don't seemed to be interested in getting professional pest exterminators to take car of these problems, opting for the more cost effective options. With the dangers these pest pose, is it really worth the risk?

One of the most common pests in the home is the household fly. The prominence of flies mean it can be easy to look past them and ignore their dangers. But being attracted to excrement and wastes, and having an attraction to human food and utensils, flies are very efficient in spreading disease around the home.

Another one of the more common insects we have grown used to in New Zealand are the mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are known for their annoying bites during the summer months, but on top of this they also spread disease, such as the Whataroa disease and some arboviral viruses.

Ants can be huge pests, and what can be even worse is that the infestation you believe to have will more than likely definitely be a lot worse than you think. Generally, the ants you see will be only 2% of the whole nest. Ants can carry diseases that they will often spread through your food, with the ability to poison your food.

Cockroaches are serious problems for the household, especially considering they can reproduce quickly. Cockroaches spread disease and often cause allergic reactions (especially with children) and can easily prompt asthmatics to have asthma attacks.

On top of this list of serious common household pests, rodent are another dangerous element. Going past the long history rodents have of spreading serious diseases, rodents can also be a problem to the quality and integrity of your home building, home wiring, your furniture and your equipment.

This is merely the tip of the iceberg of a huge range of household pests that should be treated with care and exterminated effectively.
